About
Fisheries sector contributes in socio-economic developments of the U. T. of Daman & Diu. Fisheries sector is one the major source of livelihood for economically backward population. We aim to support economically backward fishermen population and improve fishery sector by adopting modern sustainable techniques in various fields of fisheries. We generate employment for economically backwards, cheap & nutritious food for the society and the foreign exchange for the nation. Considering various resources, trends, opportunities, weaknesses and threats department has formed strategies for future.
Marine Fisheries:
- Strengthening of Infrastructure such as Construction of Vanakbara Fishery Harbours & Modernisation of existing Fish Landing Centre & jetties.
- Modernization of intermediate fishing crafts.
- Introduce Mericulture & Sea ranching.
- Explore Deep Sea Fishing Resources (Introduce Tuna long lining).
- Training and Extension.
- Strengthening of marketing infrastructure.
Brackish Water Fisheries:
- Enhancement of the existing farms for Brackish Water aqua culture to augment shrimp production.
- Training of farmers in coastal aqua culture and man power development.
- Establishment of new aqua culture farms as per norms of Coastal Aqua culture Authority.
- The present thrust is to augment the shrimp production through increasing the productivity of existing farms as well as bringing more area under brackish water farming.
